PREGNANCY
Think you’re pregnant?
If you have not
confirmed your pregnancy, but have
symptoms, such as a missed period, nausea,
swollen breasts, or unusual fatigue,
Pregnancy Concerns offers free pregnancy
testing. The most obvious sign of pregnancy
is a missed period,
however
pregnancy can be detected as early as ten
days after conception, before the first
period is missed. Our testing checks for the
pregnancy hormone hcg (Human Chorionic
Gonadotropin) in your urine.
To make an
appointment for a free test, you may call
939 2633.
What's going on inside?
Prepare for
your appointment by collecting a sample of
your first morning urine to bring with you
or we can do testing on a urine sample given
at the centre.
If you are facing an
unplanned pregnancy, understanding your
pregnancy
will be an
important factor as you think about your
decision in the next few days. Pregnancy is
an amazing biological process of nurturing a
new life. It starts when sperm penetrates an
egg or ovum to fertilize it, this is called
conception. At conception the form of the
ovum is changed and now contains all the
information or DNA, that determines the
unique physical and personality traits of a
new human being, including gender, hair and
eye colour, height and skin tone.
Development continues for approximately the
next nine months, but there are important
landmarks along the way.
Between 5 and 9 days
after conception the ovum attaches itself to
the lining of the uterus and begins drawing
nourishment. Therefore it is important for a
pregnant woman to see a health-care provider
and consider how her lifestyle may affect
her unborn baby. Pregnancy Concerns can
refer you to doctors in the Tri-Cities and
help you find other resources that will help
you answer questions about nutrition and
other topics that may affect your baby.
For most
women pregnancy will be a healthy and
uncomplicated time.
I'm not sure I'm ready for this?
If you are facing an
unplanned pregnancy and feeling unprepared
or are facing difficult circumstances, we
can give you complete information about all
options to help you make the best decision
for you and your unborn child.
Each choice has
different considerations;
you may carry your pregnancy to term or
choose abortion. If you carry to term
you may parent your child, or make an
adoption plan for your baby.
Pregnancy Concerns provides a safe place for
you to explore your options, talk and think
through all the issues. No two situations
are the same and our caring peer-counsellors
will
help you sort through all you face in making
a decision about your pregnancy.
How will it affect my relationships?
Pregnancy will also
have some implications for your
relationships. You may be getting different
messages from different people, or feeling
pressured into making a particular decision
by others. Your sexual partner is an
important part of the decision-making
process, and where possible you may want to
include him in your thought-process. There
may also be significant people in your life,
such as parents and friends who will be part
of your plans.
Pregnancy
Concerns gives you a safe place to talk
about the pressures you face and the
different responses you may be getting to
your pregnancy. |
